Senate Joins the House in Introducing a Wireless Tax Freeze

We’re making progress, people!

Yesterday, Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) reintroduced the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’ (S. 1235) which would put a freeze on any new discriminatory state or local wireless taxes and fees for five years. Their colleagues in the House reintroduced its companion bill earlier this month which received strong bipartisan support among members of Congress and interested individuals and organizations across the political spectrum.

The fact is the average consumer now pays more than 17% in combined local, state and federal wireless taxes and fees, a tax-increase trend that has continued to rise, so it’s time to do something about it. We are extremely pleased to see that both chambers of Congress are taking this issue seriously and advocating for giving consumers some relief from their heavy wireless tax burdens.

Time for Action

Let’s take action now before wireless taxes go up any more! Please write your Representative and Senators today and ask them to support the swift passage of the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’.

Thanks to the thousands of MyWireless.org supporters who have already written to their Representatives in support of this bill. Congress is listening to us, and getting the bill introduced in the Senate is another important step toward putting a freeze on unfair wireless taxes.

Let’s make it happen!

Take action now!

Who’s going to pay for all the oBooboPhones? Everyone knows that they HAVE to make the oBooboPhones truly free by making them “Unlimited” and add FREE data plans too. And why should the poor only get FREE cheap phones? They need to add iPhones and Galaxy 4 phones. Just tell the suckers paying the bills that ONLY the rich will be taxed and they will fall for it AGAIN.

So when phones were being given away under President Bush they were called “Government Phones”, now that there is a new Adm. the phones carry a different name. Just sayin.

      • guy schmidt

Under Bush’s administration, the cost of phones was 700 million/ year. Under Obama, the cost has skyrocketed to 2.2 Billion. Like everything else that’s free, it’s not free. You and I bear the cost in taxes. Just sayin’.

I don’t mind helping out, but the program is NOT an entitlement and it is clearly being abused. Google “government phone program, abuse” and see for yourself. White, Black, Brown or Yellow, color plays no part. Entitle people to things, and the taxpayer will ultimately suffer the abuse. A penny tax here, a penny there. It has become a financial death by a thousand cuts.

Under Bush, 700 million/year. Under Obama, 2.2 billion. Supposed to be a landline program, morphed into a cellular giveaway. Just sayin’.

Cost has almost tripled under this administration.
