Erick Erickson Joins MyWireless.org® in Urging the Senate to Pass the Wireless Tax Fairness Act

Erick Erickson, Editor of RedState.com, learned firsthand about abusive taxing of cellphone users by local government as a councilman in Georgia. In the video below, Erick talks about that experience, explains how the current tax structure is outdated and unfair, and tells viewers how The Wireless Tax Fairness Act (S. 543) can start fixing the situation.

Today, the tax to talk on and use a cellphone is out of hand. According to a recent study, the average American consumer now pays more than 17% per month in combined federal, state and local wireless taxes and fees. That’s nearly two-and-a-half times the average general sales tax rate.

Erick has joined with MyWireless.org to ask the U.S. Senate to pass the Wireless Tax Fairness Act, which would give relief to consumers by putting a five-year freeze on new state and local wireless taxes and fees.

Wireless cellphones are a service that we pay for on a monthly basis. It shouldn’t be taxed at all. If the providers are taxed, then they pass that along to the clientele in the form of a higher monthly rate. It’s an expense to the provider that is passed along to the consumer. If the consumer doesn’t like the higher rate, then they find a new provider that offers a lower rate. It’s called Free Enterprise. As far as “The Wireless Tax Fairness Act”, there is a Bill in Congress that will accomplish. That Bill is H.R. 25/The FairTax: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUNoDyV14oE
