An Overwhelming Majority of Arizona Consumers are Highly Satisfied with their Wireless Phone Service

New bi-partisan poll finds Arizonans are also Strongly Against New State Regulations

Phoenix, AZ – The results of a new bi-partisan statewide survey released today by national nonprofit consumer advocacy group MyWireless.org® shows that more than 9 out of 10 wireless consumers in Arizona, who are likely voters, are satisfied with their wireless phone service. Findings also show that about three-quarters of consumers believe adding new regulations on wireless phone service will make their service more expensive, and will do nothing to improve their wireless phone service.

Of the 600 cell phone users polled statewide, top findings include:

  • 92% are satisfied with their wireless phone service
  • 74% consider the value of their wireless phone service, and the benefits it provides them, to be either excellent, or good
  • 74% believe adding new government regulations on wireless would make their cell phone service more expensive
  • 74% believe adding new government regulations on wireless will either make their cell phone service worse or make no difference at all
  • 66% expect the quality of wireless phone service to get better over the next couple of years
  • 64% are opposed to adding any new state government regulations on wireless phone service
  • 63% believe existing competition among wireless phone providers in Arizona already ensures that consumers have enough choices and receive a fair price for their wireless phone service.

“This new survey data shows that Arizona’s wireless consumers are extremely happy with their services and choices, and don’t want the state government meddling in a marketplace that works for them,” said Kimberly Kuo, Executive Director of MyWireless.org®. “Wireless is the service of choice for many to stay connected, but also for music, Internet access, gaming, video and more.”

“American wireless consumers know what they want. Consumers consider wireless an extremely good value in a highly competitive free marketplace, they appreciate the fast-paced innovation of wireless technology, and they don’t want the government making their personal and individual choices for them,” continued Kuo. “Arizona’s consumers and voters want the State Legislators to focus on more important economic and social issues, such as: ‘reducing wasteful government spending,’ ‘preventing tax increases,’ ‘creating jobs and improving the state’s economy,’ ‘providing affordable health care,’ and ‘improving education.’ Even when some state legislators in Phoenix spin it as a “cell phone users’ bill of rights,” consumers simply do not favor more laws or regulations on their wireless service.”

McLaughlin & Associates, with Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates, conducted this statewide poll of 600 adult wireless phone users who are likely Arizona voters via telephone, from January 8-10, 2008.

MyWireless.org®, a nationwide non-profit consumer advocacy organization, has joined together in a diverse coalition of Arizona businesses, issue advocacy groups and consumers to oppose legislation in the state to add additional regulations on top of existing wireless services.
