President Bush Signs DTV Deadline
Good News! Thousands of consumers came to MyWireless.org and helped get legislation passed that sets a firm date for the transition to digital television. Thanks to consumers making their voices heard with their Members of Congress, the bill passed both Houses of Congress, and was signed by President Bush. Now, February 17, 2009 is the firm date for television broadcasters to complete the digital television transition, which will free up airwaves for both public safety and advanced wireless services. Why is this such a good thing? Soon consumers across the country will have access to better television, improved public safety and advanced wireless services. Our first-responders can use their portion of the airwaves to ensure that their communication systems work during major emergencies and to add additional capacity for their existing systems. Consumers especially those in rural and under-served areas will get more broadband Internet access and other advanced wireless services at affordable and competitive prices.
This is an important win for consumers! MyWireless.org thanks you for standing up and protecting the freedom, value, security and mobility you enjoy with wireless services.
