Environmentally-Conscious Wireless

As a nation, we are focused on ways to be more environmentally responsible - and we at MyWireless.org want to ensure the hundreds of millions of American wireless consumers are armed with the information they need to be more eco-friendly.

In our recent national survey, we found that the majority of people know their wireless devices and accessories are recyclable, but only 54% of respondents said they have ever recycled or donated an old wireless device or accessory. On top of that, only 36% said they were aware of the fact that their wireless carrier has a "green" program in place to accept used wireless products.

We can do better than that! Learn about how you can make an impact:

Turn In Your Old Phones

  • Every major wireless carrier allows you to bring your old devices and accessories to stores where they will be responsibly disposed.
  • Many handset manufacturers supply packaging to mail your old phone in to be recycled when you purchase a new one.
  • Find out what other "green" initiatives your wireless company has in place.

Donate Your Old Phones to Charity

  • There are a number of organizations that accept cell phone donations and put your old wireless device to use to help those in need (e.g., victims of domestic violence or U.S. troops overseas)
  • BUT, remember before you recycle or donate, make sure you wipe your personal information from your device!

Choose Efficiency

  • Many of today's devices are much more energy-efficient and include components made from recycled materials.
  • Battery chargers are also more energy-efficient and reduce the amount of energy wasted through inefficient charging practices.

Together we can make smart energy choices that will make a difference for our environment while enjoying the wireless freedom we depend on.
