Corvallis, Oregon: Send a Letter Today

The Corvallis City Council passed a new tax on all communication services, specifically wireless services, in order to “level the playing field among telecommunications providers.” Sounds fair, right? Except what the City Council is NOT telling consumers is that they will tax wireless service for something wireless services don’t even use! Even worse, the money collected will do nothing to improve the quality or coverage of wireless service. Wireless consumers need to join together and speak out against this outrageous and unfair new tax.

Subject: Oppose New Cell Phone Taxes in Corvallis
Dear [Lawmaker]:

I understand the Corvallis City Council may be considering adding new taxes on my cell phone service. Wireless service gives me, and thousands of other Corvallis consumers, the freedom to stay in touch with our friends and family, to be more productive in our work, to call for help in emergencies, and to be accessible when we want to be. New taxes on wireless service threaten the freedom and mobility I get from these valuable services. And, it does nothing to improve my wireless service.

Like others in my community, I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes but I do mind when my city adds another tax to my already tax-burdened wireless service without my consent. If more taxes are added to my wireless service, I may not be able to afford to keep my cell phone--it's not a luxury but a necessity. I don't want to be in the position of having to give up the mobility and accessibility my cell phone provides because I simply can't afford more taxes and fees.

Please oppose any proposal to add new taxes to wireless service and persuade your colleagues to do the same. We wireless consumers need your leadership and commitment to keep wireless service accessible and affordable for all consumers by opposing new taxes on wireless.

Sincerely,
