Finally, and without a moment to spare, you will enjoy another year of tax-free access to the Internet.
While we share Senator Wyden’s enthusiasm for the extended ban on taxing Internet access, we also recognize that this extension is only a short-term fix. Affordable Internet access is something that Americans repeatedly acknowledged as a critical and essential component of our modern digital economy and our way of life. Congress must continue its support for fair and affordable Internet access by banning Internet access taxes through a permanent extension of the Internet Tax Freedom Act.
The Internet Tax Freedom Act was originally passed in 1998 to foster and encourage the continued expansion of Internet use in the U.S. CTIA found that this decision to keep Internet access tax free led to more than $34.4 billion in savings for Americans, and that doesn’t count the benefits the Internet provides on how we communicate, learn and conduct business.
We urge Congress to support a permanent ban on Internet access taxes. We can’t afford anything less.
