Consumers Remain Overwhelmingly Satisfied with their Wireless Service,
New Poll Finds
Orlando, FL - New polling data released today by MyWireless.org® shows that America's cell phone consumers remain highly satisfied with their wireless service, and think proposals to add new regulations on their wireless service would raise prices and slow innovation.
Of the 1,000 cell phone users polled nationwide, the top findings include:
• 93% are satisfied with their wireless phone service.
• 91% say funds collected for E-911 fees should be strictly designated to pay for emergency services related to cell phones.
• 83% think they already pay "too much" or the "right amount" in taxes and fees, and do not want further tax increases.
• 81% support a 3-year nationwide freeze on new wireless taxes, prohibiting states and localities from raising taxes on wireless services.
• 75% would not be willing to pay more for so-called "consumer protection" regulations, even spun as a “consumer bill of rights."
• 71% of consumers support continuing laws that prohibit federal, state or local governments from taxing Internet access or Internet commerce.
• 67% believe new government regulations on cell phone service would make their cell phone service more expensive.
Kimberly Kuo, Executive Director of MyWireless.org®, said, “This new data shows consumers are extremely happy with their wireless services and choices, and don't want the state or federal government meddling in a marketplace that works for them. Even when politicians spin it as a “wireless consumer bill of rights,” consumers do not favor more laws or regulations on wireless. Consumers overwhelmingly want to prevent more taxes on wireless. They think they pay enough - or too much - and support policies that would prohibit more state and local taxes, or taxes on wireless Internet access."
“Consumers consider wireless an extremely good value and don’t want government regulations making choices for them. Wireless is becoming their service of choice for staying connected, but also for music, gaming, video and more.”
McLaughlin & Associates of New York conducted this national survey of 1,000 adult wireless phone users who are likely voters via telephone on March 6-8, 2007. More survey results are available at www.MyWireless.org.
