MyWireless.org® Commends U.S. House of Representatives’ Progress on Internet Tax Moratorium Extension
U.S. House makes significant headway toward protecting wireless consumers by overwhelmingly passing tax moratorium legislation today.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – National wireless consumer advocacy organization MyWireless.org® today issued the following statement following the U.S. House’s overwhelming floor vote for passage of H.R. 3678, the Internet Tax Freedom Act Amendments Act of 2007.
“MyWireless.org® and America’s more than 245 million wireless consumers praise the leadership of the House of Representatives today for defending much-needed tax relief for millions of Americans who access the Internet every day,” said Kimberly Kuo, Executive Director. “Today’s 405-2 passage of this important bi-partisan legislation in the U.S. House is a very clear declaration by our national lawmakers that wireless consumers deserve affordable access to the Internet, especially while on-the-go.
“We are pleased this legislation extends the current ban on Internet taxation for another 4 years, through 2011,” continued Kuo. “However, we continue to strongly believe – along with 71% of American wireless consumers and a clear majority of the House – that a permanent moratorium is in the best interest of all Internet consumers in this country.
“We are hopeful that the U.S. Senate will quickly follow suit with companion legislation, before the current moratorium expires on November 1,” said Kuo. “MyWireless.org® encourages all Senators to protect American consumers’ affordable access to one of the world’s most powerful, exciting and ever-changing information tools, by passing the Internet Tax Freedom Act Amendments Act of 2007, and getting it quickly to the President for his signature.”
