MyWireless.org® Coalition Asks FCC for Quick Decision on ETF Petitions

WASHINGTON, D.C. – MyWireless.org and its coalition partners, including the Hispanic Alliance for Progress Institute, The National Black Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council, USA Next and Frontiers of Freedom, asked the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a resolution to the petitions currently pending at the Commission regarding early termination fees (ETFs).

The grassroots advocacy organization warned against state regulation of early termination fees, stating such action could lead to higher monthly bills and fewer service plan options for consumers. MyWireless.org suggested that open competition, as opposed to regulations, enables innovation, better service quality and coverage, more and better service offerings, cheaper plans, and lower overall costs for consumers.

Kimberly Kuo, Executive Director of MyWireless.org said, “If states are allowed to eliminate or impose regulations on early termination fees, consumers will ultimately be harmed, because service providers will no longer be able to offer nationwide plans and pricing. Consumers will likely be left with higher monthly bills and fewer service plans. Wireless consumers deserve continued access to affordable, innovative wireless services and diverse choices among service plans and features.”
