As one of Minnesota's 3.7 million wireless consumers, I urge you and other Minnesota State Legislators to oppose H.F. 635/S.F. 833. These bills would impose costly and unnecessary new government regulations on my wireless service. This legislation threatens the affordability and accessibility of wireless services for all of Minnesota’s families and businesses. Government regulations will only slow innovation and high-tech development in our state. That’s bad news for our economy.
Minnesotans already pay over 12% in combined federal, state and local wireless taxes, surcharges and government fees on our cell phone bills each month. Placing additional regulation on wireless service will only drive up our monthly bills even more. Wireless consumers have lots of competitive choices and options from which to choose for wireless devices, services and plans. We don't need state government messing up a good thing.
I am deeply concerned about the impact this proposed legislation could have on small businesses across Minnesota that depend on wireless to safely and effectively deliver their products and services. New regulations will hurt working families who rely on wireless to stay connected to family and friends, do business on the go, and get help in emergencies. Cost increases may jeopardize their ability to afford the wireless services they’ve come to depend on.
As my elected official, I urge you to do all you can to stop H.F. 635/S.F. 833 from ever becoming law. Thank you for your support of Minnesota’s 3.7 million wireless consumers.
