We think it’s important to let you know what legislators are doing what with your wireless interests in mind, and this week we honored two champions for wireless consumers. We presented Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA-16) and Trent Franks (AZ-02) with our first-ever Wireless Consumer Hero Awards for their commitment to wireless tax relief for American consumers and businesses.
They are the two original co-sponsors of ‘The Wireless Tax Fairness Act’ (H.R. 1002), which passed in the House of Representatives late last year. The bill, which is also currently being considered in the Senate, would put a freeze on any new state and local wireless taxes and fees for a period of five years. This freeze would give wireless consumers a much-needed break from even higher taxes and fees, and a window to develop a tax and fee structure that is fair and sensible.
We sincerely thank Congresswoman Lofgren and Congressman Franks for their leadership on this issue and their willingness to work collaboratively for the good of wireless consumers all over the country.
Plans are also in the works to present similar awards to the sponsors of the bill in the Senate, Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME).
We’re going to keep working to get the bill passed in the Senate and on to the President for his signature. You can help by asking your Senator to support his important bipartisan, pro-consumer legislation.
